DouneAndDeanston.net - About
These pages have all been created out of a community project to use the Internet as a resource for Doune, Deanston and all of Kilmadock.

The site has been put together by a small design team with all content coming from the web group and public contributions. We are very grateful to Airtricity who have been our primary sponsor providing a digital comera from which most of the images on this site were generated.

We hope the details below will aid other community organisations and web developers and provide an idea of the futures and direction the project will now take.

History
Although a long time in the making and designed by committee we hope that we have not produced a duck-billed platypus of a web site. The backing of local business, the community groups and the residents of Kilmadock have all helped to bring the site to it's current position and will continue to influence and contribute to it's development.

As a brief guide, the history goes something like this...

  • Launch (November 2003)
  • Form content into HTML and optimised graphics
  • Gather images and text from group and expert contributors
  • Seek backing from primary sponsor (Airtricity)
  • Invite community involvement through image content competition
  • Present plan to KDT board for backing and finance
  • Form Web steering group to propose plan of action & budget
  • Present the Web as a tool for the community to the Kilmadock Development Trust

  • A section run and managed by local schools
  • A 'Send an e-Postcard' feature
  • An eCommerce integration with the KDT information centre
  • A Library of Historical Images
  • A section run and managed by the youth club
  • And more content, images, history etc etc etc - especially subset detail of existing pages such as more info on the Doune pistols, the distillery, integration with The Bridge...
